A day in the WNC Mountains.

Do you ever play tourist in your own town? It’s something our family has enjoyed since moving to the mountains. North Carolina has so much beauty and culture to offer its impossible to see it all in one day. So what would a local do if she had a day in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains? Let’s find out.

Rise and shine friends, there is no better way to start the day than with a cup of coffee or a beautiful Latte at Orchard Coffee in Downtown Waynesville. Just steps from Main Street this beautiful coffee shop serves up a mean cup of Joe, oh and I almost forgot to mention.. not only is owned by Cabell Tice the award winning Latte artist, but it also was featured in Food & Wine magazine for the best coffee place in NC.

Grab breakfast there because the next stop is Looking glass falls. If you are an avid hiker looking to enjoy the outdoors you will find endless trails, and if you prefer the sights than look no further. Looking Glass Falls is a short 40 min drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains and the perfect location for a picnic lunch. Bring your camera because the photo ops are out of this world!

No siestas for our afternoon adventure. From looking glass falls you will circle back to Asheville for an afternoon glass of wine at the Biltmore, or a beer at one of the many breweries (beer and wine guide coming soon!). looking for an option other than the spirits? Grab an afternoon chocolate at French Broad chocolate factory.

The evening is winding down, and you need a place to stay. Take the road back towards Waynesville to escape the hustle of the city. Lake Junulaska offers a stunning view and accommodations at the Terrace hotel. Steps away from the hotel you can grab a rocking chair and view the sunset over the lake.

You have had a long day, so get some sleep because there are more adventures to be had another day.
