Traverse City Michigan

Lets take a weekend away, a night to explore the picturesque town in northern Michigan known as Traverse City. This town glistens from the beautiful bay waters, and the town lights up with warmth during the winter months. It is a year round travel destination for family getaways, romantic vacations and the perfect day trip for Michigan locals.

Growing up in Michigan our family spent extensive time in the northern part of the lower peninsula. Traverse city was a quick drive from our family cottage when I was young. As I grew up we spent girls weekends going wine tasting. When my now husband and I started dating we would spend the weekend up in Traverse City exploring some of our favorite wineries and resorts.

My sweet husband proposed to me in Cadillac where our family once had a cottage, and the same place we had large family vacations camping. After we got engaged we celebrated with a trip up to Traverse City. I think that its safe to say I have a close connection with the town.

This past month our family made a trip up to Traverse City, but this time we had three littles with us. I was so thankful for some helping hands with Memaw, Pop Pop and Auntie Erin. It gave us the opportunity to explore Traverse City in new ways. I thought this would be the perfect way to share some of our Traverse City favorites with all of you. So sit back, and take a look at these beautiful places while you plan your next trip to the wine country of the north.

Lets start with a resort style accommodation that offers everything. Grand Traverse Resort is the perfect location for families, girls weekends out, and romantic vacations. From the moment you walk into the grand entrance you are greeted with a smile. Just beyond reception is a short hall leading to a restaurant as well as the amazing pool complex. The boys loved the waterslide, and I was thrilled that they had a family temp hot tub we could all enjoy.

Ill be honest, when we had dinner at Aerie I believe I had the best Brussels sprouts in the world. They melted in my mouth and the flavors paired so well that just thinking about them has my mouth watering. Traverse City is known for its cherries and its wine trails; the cocktails we had at Aerie had a wonderful cherry twist but were still light and refreshing. After dinner be sure to head down to the den for some mini bowling, axe throwing or an escape room.

When you head out for the day I strongly suggest looking into a wine tour, but if you want to go exploring yourself you can’t go wrong with Old Mission. The smaller of the two peninsulas offers a multitude of wineries that all have a unique twist. Some of my personal favorites are Chateau Chantal, Blackstar Farms, Penninsula cellars, and Mari Vinyards. Each of these wineries has a beautiful location, knowledgable staff, and a few of them have a five star view.
